I will discuss the interplay between negotiations, relational outcomes, and economic outcomes. I will describe negotiation metaphors and identify under-explored areas of negotiation research. I will also explain when relational outcomes are particularly likely to influence economic outcomes, and how exchanging offers, more than other phases of the negotiation process, can harm relational outcomes.
