Faculty Profile

Dr. Haibo Liu is a faculty member in the Department of Management at HKUST Business School. Before joining HKUST, he held faculty positions at the University of California, Riverside and the Claremont Colleges. His work brings together strategy, innovation, entrepreneurship, and organizational learning, with a particular interest in knowledge-intensive and innovation-driven industries.

Dr. Liu teaches Innovation and Design Thinking, Entrepreneurship, Competitive Strategy, and Global Strategy at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He has developed and delivered several postgraduate courses focused on the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and healthcare sectors. He brings industry contexts into the classroom to create engaging and applied learning experiences for students. He has also guided student consulting projects with leading organizations and emerging startups, helping students connect classroom learning with real-world challenges.

His research focuses on strategic human capital and organizational learning, exploring how organizations develop talent, foster collaboration, and build innovative and adaptable workforces. His work has been recognized at major academic conferences and published in leading journals, including Strategic Management Journal, Organization Science, and Production and Operations Management. Through his teaching and research, Dr. Liu seeks to inspire thoughtful, future-ready leaders and contribute to a deeper understanding of how organizations learn and grow.
